There are two hoists in the NSRL target room which can be used to move equipment onto and off of the rails.
The larger hoist, also called the crane, is electrically driven and has a maximum load rating of 1000 lbs (454 kg). It covers a large portion of the north end of the target room, including the downstream half of the rail section.
The smaller hoist is hand-cranked and rated to a maximum weight of 300 lbs (136 kg). It is located close to the upstream section of the rail system in order to provide coverage in the area the large hoist cannot reach.
The figure below is a top down floor plan map of the target room showing the regions accessible by each hoist. The large hoist can reach the area denoted by the blue region where the small hoist can reach the area denoted by the pink region.
Experimenters who are planning to make use of either hoist should design and integrate hook or other lift points into their equipment. Access to rigging gear at NSRL is extremely limited. Equipment without such features will likely not be able to be lifted, even if it is below the weight limit of a hoist.
